Meet the founder

Hi, I'm Jessica.

FurHaus was shaped by more than a decade of caring for animals, a deep love for Wichita, and one extraordinary dog who changed everything.

I'm Jessica Compton—a Wichita native, wife, mother of three, and the founder of FurHaus. For more than a decade, I have worked in veterinary medicine, animal care, practice management, and business operations. That work has given me a close view of the relationship people share with their pets and the trust it takes to care for someone's beloved dog.

It has also taught me that great animal care is about more than meeting basic needs. It is about noticing the small things, communicating honestly, creating safe experiences, and understanding how deeply our dogs are woven into our families.

Long before FurHaus had a name, those lessons were taking shape through my life with Evangeline.

The dog who started it all

Nearly thirteen years of growing up together.

Evangeline was my blue merle Australian Shepherd, my soulmate dog, and a steady presence through nearly thirteen years of life. She was there for the milestones, the ordinary afternoons, the difficult seasons, and the quiet moments that become important only after they have passed.

She was never “just a dog.” She was family. Loving her made me think differently about what our dogs give us—and what we owe them in return. I wanted her life to be full of experiences with me, not spent waiting for me to come home.

When I lost Evangeline to pulmonary lymphoma in May 2026, an idea I had carried for years became impossible to ignore. We cannot decide how much time we get with our dogs. We can decide how much life, joy, movement, connection, and meaning we put into that time.

Why FurHaus

Turning experience into a place Wichita needed.

The idea grew gradually—from the needs I saw professionally, the life I shared with Evangeline, and the kind of community I wanted dog owners in Wichita to have.

Seeing the gap

I kept hearing the same needs from dog owners and feeling them in my own life. Wichita needed a dependable, climate-controlled place where dogs could truly move, play, explore, and connect in every season.

Imagining something better

I pictured more than an indoor dog park: a trusted home base where thoughtful care and a genuinely good time could exist together, and where people would never have to apologize for wanting their dogs included.

Building it here

FurHaus is being built in the city I call home, shaped by years of hands-on animal care and the real needs of local dog families. It is a place to belong, find support, make memories, and give our dogs more of the life they deserve.
